Bone grafting around dental implants, whether horizontally or vertically, has become an essential procedure in modern dentistry. The predictable achievement of this technique, in combination with soft tissue manipulations, has become a
primary focus for implantologists.
This lecture will showcase several popular techniques that have been adopted for predictable bone augmentation, including guided bone regeneration using various materials and bone replacement grafts, as well as mucosal detachment, among
others. Dr. Wang will emphasize the foundational principles required to achieve successful bone augmentation, known as the "PASS" principle (primary wound closure, angiogenesis, space, and stability).
Decision trees outlining horizontal and vertical bone augmentation will be illustrated. A step-by-step surgical demonstration of bone augmentation will be presented, covering aspects such as incision design, flap management, selection and placement of bone grafts and membranes (secured with sutures or screws), flap tension release to achieve primary wound closure, advancements in suturing techniques, post-operative care, and complication management.
